David, what is your take on why those eligible for Medicaid don't enroll?
Clarification.. the plan does not authorize rationed care; it does not affect seniors' benefits or their eligility to have care.
I believe any proposed "cuts" in those programs wil only go to less fraud and abuse. This plan does NOT authorize rationed care; senior's benefits; their eligibility or beneficiary access to care.
Approx 10 million are eligible for Medicaid but have not enrolled. In nursing homes, 70% are financed by Medicaid, 15% my Medicare. Cuts in those programs will have a huge impact on seniors in nursing facilities.
Doesn't say, but the story says the number is up due to a continuing erosion of employer-provided insurance. Still, the level remained just below the peak of 47 million who were uninsured in 2006, because of the growth of government insurance programs such as Medicaid for the poor.
Does that number include illegals?
This just crossed the wires. The Census Bureau reports that the number of people lacking health insurance rose to 46.3 million in 2008.
Lauren, you're not crazy, just compassionate and there's nothing wrong with that.
The legislation being proposed (HR 3200) unfortunately does not deliver reform in the areas that impact the claim portion of the insurance premium DOLLAR. Medical insurance plans must contain FINANCIAL CONSEQUENCES to stimulate health habit changes... Like auto ins. - if you speed you pay more.
I think it is more important for the U.S. to pay down the deficit, solve the illegal alien problem, and put people back to work. That would go a long way to solving the health care problem. Otherwise, the Congress may swear Illegals are not being covered but the courts require it anyway.
Call me crazy, but if some little kid is bleeding out of his head and taken to the hospital, I wouldn't want to let him die because he parents have him here illigally. I would gladly pay to get him stiched up. I would be sick to let him suffer.
It's funny BC/BS raised my Moms insurance payment by 32 %, but she has not had a claim in over 9 years. BC/BS needs to be slapped for this. They are just waay too mony-hungry. Competition is definitely needed to diffuse this type of business being done.
